Shamanism

Shamanism is common to nearly all cultures in some form or another. They all have them. It's everywhere.

But,. what is a 'shaman' and why would this interest us?

Michael Harner, the esteemed anthropologist, Ph.D, spent decades studying primitive tribes in South America. He wrote 'The Way of the Shaman' in which he strips away all of the cultural accouterments, such as 'spirit animals', to expose what he called 'core shamanism'. He found what all shaman have in common is they are *'technologists* of Alternate States of Consciousness' (ASC's).*

Shaman change 'consciousness' from one reality to another. Usually the intention is for healing but that is not always the case.

Think about that.

Don't Rubberists do that?

What is 'Consciousness'? It means, basically, 'cognitive focus'. It's wherever your mental 'lens' of your perceptual apparatus happens to be looking. It is your perception of the world in any given moment.

This is someone who knows how to move from one reality to another. Someone who knows how to get there through the use of hallucenogens.

Dreaming is a reality. Writing is another. In fact, in the technical sense, anyone who reads a book, does their taxes, plans some meals, -- anyone who is highly focused on some task, is, in fact, creating an ASC.
